Well, I faced this situation recently during UBUNTU installation from flash drive. Fortunately I have another laptop with a different BIOS which helped me solve the problem.
Most pendrives are shipped with USB-FDD formatting which may prevent you from booting or determining the booting sequence in BIOS. Fortunately, there is a free solution.

Solution:
- Download Bootice from http://bbs.ipauly.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2
- Re-partition following the steps shown in the link: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/restoring-your-usb-key-partition/
- Burn your pendrive in anyway you want.
- Change the boot sequence keeping USB-HDD (or USB) on top
- Now your system will boot from your USB flashdrive
